Medical Marijuana RSO in Texas
What is RSO? What You Need to Know

Made with full spectrum cannabis extract, Texas Original's RSO products offer a natural, whole-plant treatment option made with simple ingredients. But what is RSO and what are its common uses? Read on below to learn more about medical marijuana RSO in Texas.

What is RSO?

RSO is short for Rick Simpson Oil. Rick Simpson is a Canadian engineer and cannabis advocate who created a full-spectrum (also known as a whole-plant extract) cannabis oil after a work accident caused a variety of health issues. Whole-plant extract refers to all the cannabinoids of the plant, including THC, CBD, flavonoids, proteins and other potentially beneficial compounds.

Is RSO Legal in Texas?

Yes, under the Texas Compassionate Use Program, products made with RSO are legal for Texans with qualifying conditions to use with a prescription from their physician for medical marijuana. Recently, Texas introduced the state's first medical cannabis RSO Oral Syringe, offering patients a new option for concentrated relief.

What’s the Difference Between Distillate and RSO?

Distillate is a refined and purified cannabis extract containing only the intended cannabinoids, such as THC or CBD. RSO is a full-spectrum oil containing many of the compounds of the cannabis plant, including cannabinoids, flavonoids and other potentially beneficial compounds.

Texas Original products like our gummies, tinctures and beverages are made with purified cannabis extract, while RSO can be found in products such as our RSO Oral Syringe, 0:1 THC Dark Chocolate Bites and our 0:1 RSO Tincture

What Makes RSO Different?

The full-spectrum nature of RSO means that users may benefit from the “Entourage Effect”, where the combined action of cannabinoids and compounds from the cannabis plant may amplify the therapeutic benefits of the medicine. The potentially therapeutic effects of RSO may help patients manage symptoms associated with conditions such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic pain and the side effects caused by cancer treatments.

What is the Entourage Effect?

Initially, scientists identified the entourage effect as a new and innovative method of regulating endocannabinoids, whereby multiple chemicals work together to elicit a response at the cellular level in the body. The term evolved to describe the combined effects of cannabis phytochemicals or whole plant extracts. The phrase is used to describe how the compounds present in cannabis work together to create a powerful effect, which is greater than the sum of their individual parts. [1, 2]

What are the Benefits of RSO?

The potentially therapeutic effects of RSO have helped patients manage conditions such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic pain and the side effects caused by cancer treatments. The full-spectrum makeup of RSO means that users may benefit from the Entourage Effect, where the combined effects of compounds found in the cannabis plant may work together to amplify the therapeutic benefits of the medicine.

In 2016, a team of scientists from the United States and Egypt combined their efforts to review all the existing research and studies on cannabinoids and cancer. They concluded that cannabinoids may offer relief to many patients.

RSO may help to alleviate many symptoms, such as:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Nausea
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of appetite

Our RSO is extracted from our proprietary Texas OG strain, grown locally at our state-leading facility in South Austin. Texas OG is an indica, THC-dominant strain.

What Does RSO Taste Like?

RSO has an earthy, woody and grassy flavor with slight bitterness.

What Strain is the RSO Made From?

The Texas Original Cultivation Team is constantly experimenting with cannabis genetics to continue to meet their patients wherever they are in their medical marijuana journey. This led the team to breed a proprietary strain called Texas OG.

Texas OG is an indica-dominant cannabis strain, created by crossing the genetics of Godfather OG x Purple Chemrich. The dominant terpenes in this proprietary strain include alpha-Pinene and beta-Myrcene, which are responsible for the smell and taste most associated with cannabis and may help patients with qualifying conditions with pain and anxiety issues.

You can find Texas OG in our RSO products, including our 0:1 THC Dark Chocolate Bites0:1 THC Unflavored Tincture and 0:1 RSO Indica Syringe.
