Qualifying Conditions for Medical Marijuana

Texas’ medical marijuana program, the Compassionate Use Program, was established in 2015. When the program first started, only epileptic patients qualified. Then in 2019, the program expanded to over 100 medical conditions, including autism, multiple sclerosis and spasticity to name a few. Recently, during the 2021 legislative session, House Bill 1535 expanded the program further to include all cancer diagnoses and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Covered conditions for medical marijuana in Texas include:

  • Autism
  • PTSD (starting September 1, 2021)
  • Cancer (starting September 1, 2021)
  • Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
  • Multiple Sclerosis 
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Incurable Neurodegenerative diseases
