Over-the-Counter (OTC) vs. Medical Cannabis Products
While there are many CBD products on the market, it’s important to recognize the important differences between medical cannabis products – which are only available from licensed medical cannabis providers – and over-the-counter (OTC) products available at retail:
Consistency and Efficacy
CBD is medicine and, for patients to manage their conditions, must be exactly the same dose-after-dose, bottle-to-bottle. There are wide disparities in CBD and THC content from products sold by unlicensed producers (see charts below). This can result in inconsistent treatment as well as potential undesirable side-effects.
Quality and Purity
Cannabis is a bio-accumulator and absorbs elements from the soil in which it is grown. Licensed CBD oil producers like Compassionate Cultivation are held to extremely rigorous standards for quality and purity. Products from some unlicensed producers are of an unknown origin and have been shown to include impurities such as bacteria, pesticides and heavy metals.
