AUSTIN, Texas—DEC. 6, 2018—Licensed Texas medical cannabis provider Compassionate Cultivation is accelerating its mission to provide top-quality cannabidiol (CBD) medicine to patients across Texas by naming John Volkmann its Chief Marketing Officer, a new role for the company. In his 25-year marketing career, Mr. Volkmann has executed innovative brand and thought leadership strategies for companies ranging from  Silicon Valley startups to global Fortune 500 companies. “Joining a mission-based organization in a position to disrupt a dynamic, rapidly growing new industry is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Mr. Volkmann said. “I’m focused on helping this team establish a new kind of business discipline in the Texas medical cannabis market. Seeing first-hand how patients have been helped with CBD medicine makes me proud to be a part of this exciting new company.” As Compassionate Cultivation’s CMO, Mr. Volkmann identifies areas for product expansion and creates initiatives centered on education and outreach for patients and physicians, while working to raise the company’s momentum profile within the state of Texas. Prior to this, Mr. Volkmann served as the head of global corporate marketing and communications at GlobalFoundries, a leading semiconductor manufacturer with operations in the U.S., Germany, Singapore and China. He also served as Chief Marketing Officer at QD Vision, an MIT-funded nanomaterials startup, which was eventually acquired by Samsung; and led the global corporate marketing team at Advanced Micro Devices, a California-based multinational semiconductor company for almost a decade. Mr. Volkmann also co-founded a pair of brand-and-marketing consulting firms, and co-authored the book Momentum: How Companies Become Unstoppable Market Forces (Harvard Business School Press, co-author Ron Ricci). He earned his MBA from the Dartmouth College Tuck School of Business. “John Volkmann brings world-class experience and talent to our team,” said Morris Denton, CEO of Compassionate Cultivation. “His decades of marketing, branding and leadership experience in high-growth and established industries will accelerate and expand Compassionate Cultivation’s leadership in the Texas medical cannabis market.” Compassionate Cultivation made Texas history when it opened its doors in February 2018 as the state’s first retail dispensary. The company is one of three Texas businesses licensed through the state’s Compassionate Use Program to grow cannabis and process it into low-THC formulations of cannabis oil. The cannabis oil is rich in cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating plant compound that has emerged as a promising treatment option for a number of medical conditions.
