Celebrating Medical Cannabis in Texas This 4/20

This year, 4/20 marks a new chapter for medical cannabis in Texas. With the expansion of the Compassionate Use Program through House Bill 46, more Texans now have access to medical cannabis. As access continues to grow, so do the stories of patients finding relief. Since last 4/20, medical cannabis has become more accessible, with new qualifying conditions, broader product options and improved access across the state. The addition of qualifying conditions like chronic pain, Crohn’s disease and traumatic brain injuries means even more Texans may now be eligible for a Texas medical cannabis prescription. House Bill 46 made several improvements:

• Updated THC dosing laws: The way THC is measured in Texas changed during the last legislative session, shifting from a 1% weight cap to milligram-based dosing. This update opened the door for new medical cannabis product categories that were not previously available under Texas law.
• Introduced new product innovations: Under Texas’ updated medical cannabis laws, products like medical vaporization devices are now possible. While still pending final regulatory approval, vaporization products may soon offer patients a faster-acting option for relief.
• Expanded product variety: Patients are seeing more options across the program, including full-spectrum products and craft formulations like flower rosin gummies and concentrates. Texas Original concentrates are available in strain-specific varieties such as OG Kush, Blue Dream and Blackberry Kush.
• Improved statewide access: Access to medical cannabis continues to grow, with more pickup locations in cities like Lubbock and Tyler, along with same-day access available in Austin, San Antonio, Plano and Houston Heights.

How to Get Started with Medical Cannabis in Texas

For Texans exploring medical cannabis for the first time, getting started may be easier than expected. To get started:

1. Schedule an appointment with a physician registered to prescribe medical cannabis in Texas.
2. The physician will determine your eligibility and if approved, they will enter your prescription into the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT).
3. Once your prescription is submitted, place an order online or call 512-614-0343, and choose from over 18 pickup locations across Texas.
